The Story in 60 Seconds

The New Orleans Pelicans are waiving center Christian Koloko, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Koloko was signed to a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 contract, meaning the franchise will not retain his salary on their books once the transaction becomes official. The 26-year-old big man played four minutes during the team's preseason defeat to the Miami Heat on Thursday.

Drafted 33rd overall by the Toronto Raptors in 2022, Koloko missed the 2023-24 season due to a blood clot issue before later playing for the Lakers, Grizzlies, and Hawks. Because he has accumulated four years of NBA service, Koloko is no longer eligible to sign a two-way contract, and his departure leaves New Orleans with an open preseason roster spot.
