WASHINGTON — It wasn't as fast paced a game as the Washington Capitals were used to, but ultimately, they adapted, and were able to shut down the New York Rangers.

The Washington Capitals defeated the New York Rangers 3-1, overcoming a 1-0 first-period deficit. Boone Jenner and Timothy Liljegren each scored their first goals with Washington, while Tom Wilson sealed the win with an empty-net goal at the final buzzer. Goaltender Logan Thompson delivered a strong performance to hold off New York in the third period.
Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin suffered an apparent right leg injury during the game and had to be assisted off the ice without putting weight on his leg. Washington's power play struggled, finishing 0-for-3 with only four shots on goal, but strong 5-on-5 play secured the victory.
