Wizards give Anthony Davis a better chance to contend than the Mavericks could

Wiz of Awes argues that Anthony Davis has a better chance of contending for an NBA championship with the Washington Wizards than with the Dallas Mavericks. Writer Jordanna Clark suggests Dallas shifted toward a long-term rebuild around rookie Cooper Flagg following the blockbuster trade that previously sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis played only 29 games for Dallas due to injuries before being moved to Washington for financial flexibility.

Clark notes that while the Wizards are still building toward true contention after a 17-65 season, they are closer than the patient Mavericks. Both Washington and Davis reportedly opted against discussing a contract extension before the season, waiting instead to evaluate team performance and Davis's durability alongside additions like Trae Young.
