The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned defenseman Ilya Solovyov to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Saturday afternoon.

The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned defenseman Ilya Solovyov to their American Hockey League affiliate, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, on Saturday afternoon. The transaction took place after Solovyov successfully cleared waivers. The left-handed blueliner had served as a healthy scratch for Pittsburgh's first four games of the regular season.
Solovyov originally arrived in Pittsburgh via a trade with the Colorado Avalanche in January. During the recent offseason, the former restricted free agent signed a one-year contract extension with the Penguins featuring an $850,000 salary cap hit.
