The biggest story for the Calgary Flames this past week, arguably even more prominent than the team’s slow start, has been the saga of forward Connor Zary. Zary was scratched last Saturday in Vancouver, back in the lineup on Sunday…

According to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, the Vancouver Canucks are among several NHL teams considering a trade for Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary. The 25-year-old was placed on waivers, assigned to the American Hockey League, and scored in his return game with the Calgary Wranglers. Friedman noted that while interest exists, no trade deal appears imminent.
A potential trade presents financial hurdles, as Zary holds a $3.775 million cap hit and Calgary prefers not to utilize their final available salary retention slot. Despite being Pacific Division rivals, Calgary and Vancouver have executed two trades under Flames general manager Craig Conroy, and Canucks scouts were among representatives from 20 clubs watching Zary's AHL return.
