Phillies’ Sam Fuld Makes His Decision Clear After A’s Come Calling

Philadelphia Phillies president of business operations Sam Fuld has declined an offer from the Athletics to become their president of baseball operations and has withdrawn from consideration. The Athletics sought Fuld to spearhead their rebuild after finishing the 2026 season with a 64-98 record following the departure of longtime front-office head David Forst in August.

Fuld opted to remain in Philadelphia alongside Dave Dombrowski rather than take charge of the Athletics as they play in Sacramento ahead of their planned Las Vegas relocation. St. Louis Cardinals assistant general manager Rob Cerfolio also previously withdrew from consideration for the Athletics' top baseball operations position.
