Seven-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe has admitted to career regrets and officially announced his retirement from tennis decades after stepping away from the tour. In an interview with Tennis365, the 67-year-old reflected on his painful five-set loss to Ivan Lendl in the 1984 French Open final, calling it a match he should have won and noting it remains his biggest disappointment.
McEnroe also expressed regret over skipping multiple Australian Opens and French Opens during his prime, which cost him further major titles. Explaining that emotional turmoil and his divorce from Tatum O'Neal previously prevented a formal departure, McEnroe confirmed he has now officially closed the door on his competitive career.
