St Helens have officially confirmed the appointment of Ian Watson as assistant coach ahead of the 2027 season. Watson joins the Super League club from Hull KR, where he spent a year-long stint as an assistant. Upon his arrival, the 49-year-old stated that his clear ambition is to help the club return to winning silverware.
Watson will work under new St Helens head coach Kevin Walters, who is leading Australia in the autumn Rugby League World Cup before joining the club. Watson replaces outgoing assistants Eamon O'Carroll and Lee Briers, bringing prior head coaching experience from his spells with Salford Red Devils and Huddersfield Giants.
