The Tampa Bay Rays look to tie up the ALCS, but the outcome could impact the options Peralta has for next season

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Freddy Peralta will start Game 2 of the ALCS against the Cleveland Guardians with both the team's postseason hopes and his upcoming free-agent value on the line. Writer Harrison Smajovits argues that the pending free agent needs a strong playoff performance to secure a lucrative contract this winter following an uneven 2026 campaign.
Peralta struggled with a 4.99 ERA across 22 starts with the New York Mets before being traded to Tampa Bay. Although he initially struggled with a 7.17 ERA over his first four starts with the Rays, Peralta rebounded with a 0.79 ERA in his final six regular-season appearances, earning American League Pitcher of the Month honors in September.
