The New Jersey Devils were not doing all that well in Detroit.
Jack Hughes scored 1:19 into overtime to lift the New Jersey Devils to a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Assisted by Jesper Bratt, the game-winning goal capped a three-point night for Hughes, who also provided two assists. Evan Rodrigues, Anthony Mantha, Bratt, and Nico Hischier each scored for the Devils, while Alex DeBrincat scored two goals for Detroit. Jake Allen recorded 23 saves for the win.
The overtime winner was Hughes' second extra-time deciding goal of the season, pushing New Jersey's record to 3-3-0. Hughes now leads the Devils with eight points through six games. Playing alongside Bratt and Arseny Gritsyuk for the first time, Hughes' line totaled two goals and six points. The Devils next host the New York Rangers on Thursday.
