The Tampa Bay Rays enter the offseason positioned to strengthen a catching spot that has limited their lineup power, and an MLB analyst believes Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman could be the solution.
Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer predicted that the Colorado Rockies will trade All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman to the Tampa Bay Rays before the 2027 season. Rymer suggested the move would boost Tampa Bay's lineup as the franchise prepares for a new stadium opening in 2029. Tampa Bay had previously shown interest in Goodman prior to the July 31 trade deadline.
The 27-year-old Goodman hit 41 home runs with an .839 OPS in 2026 and remains under team control through 2029. In contrast, Rays catchers combined for only 36 home runs over the last three seasons. Any potential permanent trade would reportedly require significant prospect capital from Tampa Bay's deep farm system.
