Young’s defense recognized with Gold Glove nomination

Major League Baseball announced the finalists for the 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards on Wednesday, featuring three candidates at each position across both leagues. The winners will be revealed during an ESPN broadcast on Sunday, Nov. 1. The Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs pace all major league clubs with five nominations apiece, while the Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, and Kansas City Royals earned four nominees each.

Voting by MLB managers and coaches accounts for 75 percent of the outcome for traditional positions, while the SABR Defensive Index provides the remaining 25 percent. The utility position relies on a specialized defensive formula developed with SABR. Notable American League finalists include Bobby Witt Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Steven Kwan, while National League contenders include Chris Sale, Matt Olson, and Brice Turang.
