The Charlotte Hornets shocked the NBA world by trading franchise point guard LaMelo Ball this offseason. Last season saw the Hornets having a hot streak to end the season and make the play-in race. Many believed Charlotte would build around…

The Charlotte Hornets reportedly traded point guard LaMelo Ball because management did not view him as a genuine franchise centerpiece. According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, Charlotte assessed their roster and decided they could not inflict real damage with their existing core, prompting the decision to trade Ball while his market value remained high.
Charlotte completed a permanent trade sending Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for draft compensation and center Naz Reid. The Hornets are shifting focus toward Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel, while Minnesota hopes Ball can serve as a championship-contending co-star alongside Anthony Edwards.
