Rob Dillingham was considered one of the most exciting prospects in the 2024 NBA Draft, with the Minnesota Timberwolves sacrificing future draft capital to acquire him with the eighth overall pick.
Rob Dillingham is currently without an NBA contract just two years after the Minnesota Timberwolves drafted him eighth overall in 2024. Analyst Rafael Barlowe reviewed Dillingham's rapid decline following stints with Minnesota, the Chicago Bulls, and the Charlotte Hornets, who waived him in September without playing a game. Standing 6-foot-2, Dillingham struggled defensively, while his offensive efficiency dropped to roughly 32.4% from three-point range across 114 career NBA appearances.
Barlowe and development coaches suggested Dillingham's struggles stemmed from both personal limitations and poor situational fit. While Dillingham must improve his defense and decision-making, Minnesota prioritized immediate victories over his development. Barlowe noted that the 21-year-old guard may need to seek opportunities overseas in Europe or China to rebuild his value if another NBA opportunity does not emerge soon.
