The Charlotte Hornets do not acquire stars easily. Unlike big market teams like the Lakers, Knicks, and Heat, they lack the ability to lure top-end talent, giving added importance to any they do manage to find.
According to NBA insider Tim MacMahon on 'The Hoop Collective,' the Charlotte Hornets traded LaMelo Ball because the organization no longer believed he was a franchise centerpiece. The team chose to move the 25-year-old point guard to the Minnesota Timberwolves to stockpile future draft picks and construct a roster capable of deep playoff contention.
Fadeaway World reports that Charlotte's decision was also driven by Ball's zero career playoff appearances, maturity concerns, and the rise of young talents Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel. Moving Ball's contract creates the financial flexibility required to sign Miller and Knueppel to substantial upcoming extensions.
