Swansea boss Vitor Matos spent five years as an elite development coach at Liverpool, but it would be unfair to paint him with a Jurgen Klopp-shaped brush entirely.

Swansea City manager Vitor Matos has discussed his tactical philosophy and the influence of Jurgen Klopp after guiding the club to the top of the Championship 10 games into the season. Matos took charge of Swansea in November 2025 following a stint at Maritimo and previously spent five years working as Liverpool's elite development coach under Klopp.
Matos explained that his system relies heavily on Klopp-inspired counter-pressing, along with positional play refined during his time at FC Porto and Shandong Taishan. He credited Klopp's man-management and leadership style with shaping his holistic approach to coaching players.
