NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal says teams want Elias Pettersson’s production, but not at $11.6M. Here’s what the Canucks would have to do.

NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal reported on Oilers NOW that rival teams continue to check in on Vancouver Canucks center Elias Pettersson. While clubs desire Pettersson's offensive production down the middle, interest remains stalled because opposing teams are unwilling to absorb his full $11.6 million salary cap hit.
According to Dhaliwal, the Canucks would likely need to retain salary to finalize any trade, noting teams would be comfortable paying between $8.5 million and $9.5 million. Unless Vancouver agrees to retain approximately $2 million or Pettersson's cap burden decreases, trade discussions are expected to stay in a holding pattern.
