The Cricket Advisory Committee interviewed four or five candidates on October 15, with Powar emerging as the frontrunner for the vacancy.
Former India off-spinner Ramesh Powar has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Ajit Agarkar on the BCCI senior men's selection committee. Agarkar's tenure as chief selector concluded on October 4, 2026, prompting the Cricket Advisory Committee to interview four or five candidates on October 15. Although no official announcement has been made, Powar reportedly leads a candidate list that included Wasim Jaffer, Connor Williams, Jacob Martin, and Salil Ankola.
Pragyan Ojha has been serving as the interim head of the senior selection panel and is expected to continue in the role permanently. Meanwhile, VVS Laxman from the BCCI Centre of Excellence assisted in finalizing squads for India's tour of New Zealand to ensure continuity, while former pacer Dodda Ganesh is under consideration to lead the junior selection panel.
