Australia survived a steep batting collapse to secure a tense two-wicket win over New Zealand in the opening women's T20 International at North Sydney Oval. Chasing New Zealand's total of 162-2, the hosts reached 165-8 with seven balls to spare. No. 10 batter Kim Garth struck the decisive boundary to hand Australia a 1-0 lead in the three-match Rose Bowl series.
Earlier, Georgia Plimmer's career-best 85 and Maddy Green's 56 led the White Ferns during an unbroken 127-run stand. Australia looked in command behind Ellyse Perry's 52 and Beth Mooney's 38, but a chaotic run-out triggered a 7-62 collapse before the home side crossed the finish line.
