Jesús Rodríguez made his debut for the SF Giants in 2026. He hit well in his brief audition while covering a few different positions, but what is his role next season?
Around the Foghorn examines the uncertain future role of Jesús Rodríguez with the SF Giants heading into the 2027 season. While the 24-year-old impressed with his bat after debuting in 2026, posting a .728 OPS across 58 plate appearances, writer Jeff Young argues that finding him a defensive home remains a significant challenge for the organization.
Young notes that Rodríguez struggled defensively at catcher and in the outfield, while his primary positions of first and third base are blocked by other players. With two minor league options already used, the writer believes the Giants must quickly determine if Rodríguez can capably handle catcher, second base, or corner outfield spots.
