AFC Rushden & Diamonds manager Elliot Sandy praised former Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp after the 40-year-old came out of retirement to play in their FA Cup first-round match. Sharp stepped in to cover for a suspended forward as Rushden & Diamonds suffered a 4-0 defeat against Burton.
Sandy expressed gratitude to Sharp for traveling from Sheffield to train twice during the week and sharing tactical insights. Sharp almost marked the occasion with his 300th career goal in stoppage time, but his 92nd-minute attempt went wide.
