Southampton FC Women suffered their first competitive loss since March, falling 3-1 to Women's Super League side West Ham United in their Subway Players Cup opener. Ellie Brazil opened the scoring after 90 seconds for Simon Parker's side, but Southampton goalkeeper Alina Santos was sent off late in the first half following a heavy collision outside the penalty area with Seraina Piubel.
Substitute goalkeeper Grace Moloney saved Kelly Gago's penalty early in the second half, but West Ham soon took control. Oona Siren scored twice from corner kicks and Leila Wandeler added a close-range header to secure the victory for the hosts.
