West Ham United Women came from behind to defeat ten-player Southampton 3-1 in the Subway Players Cup on Wednesday. Despite Ellie Brazil putting Southampton ahead in the second minute, the visitors were reduced to ten players when goalkeeper Alina Santos was sent off in the 39th minute. Oona Siren scored twice and Leila Wandeler added another to secure the comeback victory for Rita Guarino's side.
Manager Rita Guarino made six changes to her starting lineup, handing debuts to Niamh Peacock and Sienna Wareing. The win takes West Ham to five points from their opening two league-phase fixtures in the cup, providing a positive response following their recent Women's Super League defeat to Manchester United.
