West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has received backing from Greek media following criticism over his role in Virgil van Dijk's goal during Greece's 2-2 Nations League draw with the Netherlands. Although Mavropanos failed to clear the ball before Van Dijk scored in the 59th minute, Greek outlet Sportime argued that focusing solely on that error overlooked his wider positive contributions under heavy pressure.
According to Sportime, the center-back registered 17 defensive actions against the Netherlands, including 10 clearances and five blocks, while completing 96 percent of his passes. With Greece holding just 29 percent possession, the performance followed another 17 defensive actions in a 1-0 win over Germany, demonstrating his defensive workload ahead of West Ham's upcoming fixture against QPR.
