Wrexham midfielder Matty James has revealed he was a whisker away from an unwanted retirement before the club signed him in October 2024. The 35-year-old had been released by Bristol City at the end of the 2023/24 season and trained with Leicester City before securing a short-term move to the Cae Ras.

After initially joining alongside Jón Daði Böðvarsson on a deal through January, James earned the trust of manager Phil Parkinson and has since made 80 appearances. Now under contract through the end of the 2026/27 season, James expressed gratitude for the opportunity and stated he would be proud to finish his career at Wrexham.
