Phil Parkinson proposes major international calendar change after Wrexham disruption

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has called for modifications to FIFA's revised international football calendar following a 16-day disruption to his team's Championship schedule. After a 2-1 victory over Southampton on September 19 at the Cae Ras, Wrexham was left without domestic matches until an October 10 meeting with Derby County. Parkinson voiced reservations about FIFA's merged autumn window, which consolidated the September and October breaks into an extended 16-day period.

Parkinson suggested an alternative system where national teams would have one full break alongside another window featuring only a single midweek international match to keep domestic league fixtures running. Following the current international period, Wrexham faces a congested schedule of seven Championship matches before the next stoppage in November. To maintain squad sharpness, Parkinson plans to hold an in-house match ahead of facing Derby.
