Lautaro Martínez was Barcelona’s alternative after Julián Álvarez, but Inter’s Beppe Marotta quickly ruled out any move for the striker.

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that Inter Milan swiftly rejected an approach to sign striker Lautaro Martínez on a permanent transfer. Speaking in an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Laporta revealed he personally phoned Inter president Beppe Marotta about Martínez after a move for primary target Julián Álvarez became unviable, but Marotta immediately insisted the Argentine forward was not for sale.
The direct inquiry ended immediately without Barcelona submitting a formal bid, proposing a transfer fee, or negotiating personal terms. Laporta noted that out of mutual respect and trust between the clubs, Barcelona did not pursue the matter any further once Inter made their firm stance clear.
