Mikel Arteta has said he has a clear conscience over his former club Manchester City's serious breaches of financial rules.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta stated he has a clear conscience regarding his time at Manchester City following findings that the club breached financial rules. An independent commission ruled that City artificially inflated revenues by £830m between 2009/10 and 2017/18, a timeframe covering two seasons Arteta spent as assistant to Pep Guardiola. City have denied wrongdoing and lodged an appeal against the verdict.
Arteta declined to comment further until the appeal concludes, noting that the process remains unresolved. The commission reported that City inflated sponsorship income by £264.3m during the 2016/17 and 2017/18 campaigns, when the club signed players including John Stones, Bernardo Silva, and Kyle Walker. Despite the ruling, Arteta maintained the Premier League remains the best league in the world.
