Former Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has revealed he is taking a break from football following his retirement from the sport after finishing last season with Sevilla. Speaking at Emirates Stadium while collecting a diploma in global football sport directorship from the PFA Business School, the 37-year-old stated that while he may consider becoming a sporting director in the future, he currently lacks the energy for full-time commitment and intends to prioritize spending time with his family.
Azpilicueta also reflected on his transformative 11-year spell at Stamford Bridge, where he won the Champions League and adapted across multiple defensive roles. Though he has not returned to the ground since departing in 2023, he expressed confidence in manager Xabi Alonso and captain Reece James to guide the club forward.
