Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been backed to retain his position as England number one

Former England internationals Kevin Phillips and Alan Smith believe Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford remains England's true number one despite being left out by manager Thomas Tuchel. Pickford was benched for two matches in favor of Leeds United goalkeeper James Trafford before being restored to face Croatia.
Phillips expressed surprise at the benching but expects Pickford to respond strongly with consistent performances for Everton. Smith echoed that while Trafford's emergence is positive, Pickford's established record keeps him as the nation's premier goalkeeper.
