Ipswich Town U21s suffered a 1-0 defeat against Anderlecht in their opening Premier League International Cup clash at Portman Road. First-team professionals Cedric Kipre and Marcelino Nunez both started for John McGreal's side, marking the return of European football to the stadium for the first time in two decades.
The decisive goal came in the 23rd minute courtesy of Anderlecht's Aliya N'dao. Kipre and Nunez featured for just over an hour, while Ipswich suffered early setbacks with head injuries to Jacob Mazionis and Oliver Wilkinson. Anderlecht were reduced to ten men late on when N'dao received a straight red card, but the young Blues were unable to equalize.
