Julian Ward eight Liverpool signings rated including record transfer, big hits and one huge flop

Julian Ward is on the verge of returning as Liverpool's sporting director after previously holding the position during the 2022/23 season. The 45-year-old is the favorite to step back into the role following the departure of Richard Hughes to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal earlier this month.

During his initial tenure, Ward oversaw the arrival of eight permanent transfers totaling up to £225m, including Luis Diaz from FC Porto and Alexis Mac Allister. He also helped secure Mohamed Salah's big-money contract extension in July 2022 and will soon face contract situations involving several high-profile Liverpool players.
