The fearless centre-forward would lead the line as the Magpies achieved European glory…

Sixty years after making his home debut on November 12, 1966, the late Wyn Davies is remembered for his impactful Newcastle United career. Manager Joe Harvey signed the Welsh international striker from Bolton Wanderers for a then-club-record £80,000 fee. Renowned for his formidable aerial ability and physical strength, Davies quickly earned the nickname "Wyn the Leap" and became an essential target man for the Magpies.
Davies played a pivotal role in Newcastle United's 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup triumph, scoring key goals against Feyenoord, Real Zaragoza, and Vitoria Setubal before defeating Ujpest Dozsa in the final. Across five years on Tyneside, Davies scored 53 goals in 216 appearances before moving on in 1971. Davies passed away in July at the age of 83.
