Newcastle United forward Matías Fernández-Pardo has withdrawn from Belgium's squad for upcoming Nations League fixtures due to illness. Belgium manager Mark van Bommel confirmed the decision on November 6, 2026, ahead of matches against Türkiye and Italy. Van Bommel explained that the forward chose to sit out because he is not at full fitness, having only trained twice since October 17.
The absence adds to a challenging start for Fernández-Pardo following his €60m summer move to Newcastle from Lille. The Belgian international has made seven senior appearances for his country but has struggled for Newcastle, remaining scoreless in his first six club matches under manager Matthias Jaissle.
