Roberto De Zerbi pulled out all of the stops to prise Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United in the summer.

Agent Giuseppe Riso has revealed how Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi convinced midfielder Sandro Tonali to join Spurs over Manchester City. Tottenham secured the permanent signing of the 26-year-old from Newcastle United for a club-record fee of £92.5 million plus £7.5 million in add-ons. Riso explained that De Zerbi visited Tonali's home directly, emphasizing his importance as an essential squad leader.
Manchester City subsequently pivoted to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million following their missed pursuit. Tonali, who agreed to a six-year deal with Tottenham, has started all five opening Premier League fixtures as Spurs navigate a difficult start to their domestic campaign.
