Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso confirmed that top scorer Joao Pedro will be sidelined for several weeks with a thigh injury. The Brazilian striker suffered the knock in training before missing the team's 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday. Pedro has scored five goals in all competitions this season and will miss Wednesday's Carabao Cup fourth-round clash against Liverpool.
In positive news for Chelsea, striker Emmanuel Emegha is available to make his competitive debut following a hamstring injury. However, the Blues remain without suspended attacker Cole Palmer alongside injured players Reece James, Emi Martinez, Pep Chavarria, and Jamie Gittens.
