Scotland Under-21s put on show in Docherty’s bow to soothe pain of 30-year tournament exile

Scotland Under-21s kicked off the Tony Docherty era with an emphatic 5-2 victory over Azerbaijan at Rugby Park on Wednesday night. Despite results elsewhere ending Scotland's hopes of qualifying for the European Championships, Docherty's side produced a commanding display. Rangers winger Findlay Curtis impressed with four assists as Scotland overcame an early deficit to secure the three points in Group B.
West Brom forward Barney Stewart led the scoring with a quickfire first-half double, while Hearts' James Wilson, Tyler Fletcher, and substitute Bobby Wales also found the net. Neriman Akhundzada and Raul Mammadov scored for Azerbaijan. Operating in a 3-4-3 formation modeled after senior head coach Sebastien Pocognoli's system, several players delivered standout performances in Docherty's debut match in charge.
