Turkiye set to sack Montella, with Arda Turan in pole to replace him

The Turkish Football Federation is reportedly set to dismiss head coach Vincenzo Montella following a 3-1 Nations League defeat to Italy in Bologna. The federation has reportedly agreed on a severance package worth €915,000 for the Italian manager, which covers five months of wages. Former Turkey international and current Shakhtar Donetsk coach Arda Turan has been identified as the frontrunner to replace him.

Montella's anticipated departure comes after a run of four consecutive Nations League defeats and a group-stage exit at the 2026 World Cup. Across his three-year tenure, Montella oversaw 40 matches, securing 21 wins, five draws, and 14 losses, with six defeats occurring in his last seven games. His highlights included reaching the Euro 2024 quarter-finals and securing World Cup qualification.
