The Australian vice-captain has said she was surprised the breakdown of her marriage became so public.

Australian women's cricket vice-captain Ash Gardner stated that her teammates still consider her a good person following the public controversy regarding her relationship with teammate Georgia Voll. Speaking in an interview, the 29-year-old acknowledged that her personal reputation had been damaged following the breakdown of her marriage to Monica Wright, but expressed regret that the fallout overshadowed Australia's Twenty20 World Cup title.
Gardner confirmed she will step away from any selection discussions concerning Voll to prevent conflicts of interest. Despite criticisms from Wright over leadership standards, Cricket Australia backed Gardner to remain vice-captain alongside Tahlia McGrath as the national squad prepares for an upcoming one-day international series against Bangladesh.
