Steve Smith's preternatural ability to anticipate and cling on to seemingly impossible chances was on full display in Durban

Steve Smith produced several exceptional catches on day three of the Durban Test against South Africa, reclaiming the world record for the most catches in men's Test history by a non-wicketkeeper. Smith took sharp slip catches to dismiss Temba Bavuma and David Bedingham, followed by a spectacular one-handed grab off Kyle Verreynne's reverse sweep. His performance earned widespread acclaim, with teammate Nathan Lyon calling him a freak and South Africa batting coach Ashwell Prince praising his anticipation.
Smith's efforts brought his career tally to 223 Test catches, moving him ahead of England's Joe Root at the top of the all-time list. The dismissals also marked the 65th time Smith and Lyon have combined for a Test wicket, placing them second in history behind Muttiah Muralidaran and Mahela Jayawardene.
