Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany was hospitalised on Friday after collapsing following a training session. The 40-year-old manager was observing the session when the incident took place, according to the German club. Kompany will undergo comprehensive medical examinations and remain under clinical care, while his coaching staff assumes responsibility for team training and upcoming match preparations.
Kompany had recently been diagnosed with a viral infection, which caused him to miss a training session and press conference earlier in the week. Despite feeling unwell, he managed Bayern's 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal on Wednesday. Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed Kompany will receive full support ahead of Sunday's Bundesliga fixture against Freiburg.
