Fifteen-year-old Tanvi Patri made history on Wednesday by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the badminton final at the Youth Olympic Games. The Odisha shuttler secured her spot by defeating Japan's Yuzuno Watanabe 21-14, 11-21, 21-19 in a hard-fought three-game semifinal held in Buenos Aires. The victory moved her within one match of winning a gold medal.
The triumph also avenged Patri's previous loss against Watanabe in Thailand. She joins HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, and Aditya Joshi as the only Indian shuttlers to reach the semifinals at the Youth Olympic Games. Patri previously claimed the continental U-17 title at the Badminton Asia U-17 and U-15 Championships in Chengdu.
