Having struggled under Hardik Pandya in successive seasons franchise turns to its successful captain to take over ahead of the next season.

Rohit Sharma is reportedly set to return as captain of Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2027 season, replacing Hardik Pandya. After struggling under Pandya's leadership and enduring a six-year title drought, the franchise requested the five-time IPL-winning captain to resume the role, which he has now agreed to do following discussions prior to traveling to New Zealand.
The leadership shift comes alongside an overhaul of Mumbai Indians' coaching staff, with Kieron Pollard installed as head coach, Robin Uthappa as batting coach, and Mitchell McClenaghan as bowling coach. If an anticipated trade away from the franchise does not materialize, Pandya has reportedly agreed to play under Sharma's captaincy.
