Sanath Jayasuriya backs high-scoring chases, says trend is good for cricket

Sri Lanka legend Sanath Jayasuriya expressed strong support for the rise of high-scoring chases in white-ball cricket during an event in Mumbai on October 30, 2026. Speaking after Sri Lanka successfully chased down 429 against England in Rawalpindi, Jayasuriya highlighted that growing player confidence and rule changes make anything possible, creating positive trends for the sport despite increased pressure on bowlers.

Jayasuriya noted that Sri Lanka's run to the Tri-Series final against Pakistan provides strong momentum ahead of their December tour of India. He also praised the quality of India's squad and commended young batter Abhishek Sharma following his 35-ball century against New Zealand in Wellington.
