Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has brushed off his Lap 1 clash with teammate Lewis Hamilton at the Mexico City Grand Prix, calling the incident hard racing. The pair fought closely through the opening sequence of corners, running off track at Turn 4, which resulted in a time penalty for Leclerc and allowed Red Bull's Max Verstappen to pass Hamilton.
Leclerc acknowledged that his penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage was deserved, but explained he held position strategically against Red Bull. Later, a Lap 45 red flag restart on the dirty side of the grid saw Leclerc lose third place to Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli.
