Cadillac test driver Colton Herta will participate in Friday's opening practice session at the Brazil Grand Prix to secure his final required FIA superlicence point. Herta needs 40 points to qualify for an F1 race seat, but he remains one point short following confusion regarding his past IndyCar results and a prior mechanical failure during practice in Monza.
Driving Sergio Perez's car in Sao Paulo will mark Herta's sixth FP1 appearance of the season. Completing at least 24 laps will fulfill the 100-kilometer requirement to earn the point, keeping Cadillac's options open as team principal Marcin Budkowski weighs retaining Valtteri Bottas or promoting Herta for 2027.
