The ‘difference’ between Kimi Antonelli’s F1 title and Lewis Hamilton’s according to Toto Wolff

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff highlighted the contrast between Kimi Antonelli's maiden Formula 1 championship and Lewis Hamilton's title-winning era. Wolff explained that Hamilton's triumphs felt like being part of global sporting history, whereas watching the 20-year-old Italian win felt refreshing because Antonelli remains grounded and youthful. Antonelli clinched the 2026 title at the Mexican Grand Prix with four rounds remaining.

Wolff described Antonelli's championship as vindication following intense external criticism when Mercedes selected him to replace Hamilton. Despite losing two sponsors and enduring a difficult 2025 rookie season alongside George Russell, Antonelli rebounded in 2026 by securing nine wins, 16 podiums, and seven pole positions.
