F1 Azerbaijan GP: Why Formula 1 will not race on Sunday in Baku this weekend

The 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place on Saturday, September 26, shifting away from Formula 1's standard Sunday race schedule. The entire race weekend in Baku will run from September 24 to September 26, featuring practice sessions on Thursday and qualifying on Friday.

The schedule change was made to avoid clashing with Azerbaijan's national Remembrance Day on September 27. The annual day of mourning honors Azerbaijani servicemen who died during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War in 2020.
