With the threat of a lockout looming while coming off a relatively down season, Bichette reportedly opted for the security of a $42 million deal rather than risk going into a work stoppage without a contract.
Two-time All-Star Bo Bichette is reportedly opting in to his contract to return to the New York Mets for the 2027 Major League Baseball season. The infielder faced a decision on whether to exercise his $42 million player option or opt out to test free agency for the second consecutive year.
Bichette originally joined the Mets after departing the Toronto Blue Jays via free agency on a three-year, $126 million contract. His decision ensures he remains with New York heading into an offseason where the club also recently appointed Andy Green as manager.
