After deciding whether or not to trade Ketel Marte, a secondary item on the Diamondbacks’ to-do list will be upgrading the rotation. General manager Mike Hazen tells Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic that he would like to acquire a…

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen plans to pursue a controllable starting pitcher this offseason, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. The Diamondbacks are aiming to reduce payroll, making a trade far more likely than a major pursuit in free agency. Arizona's rotation recorded a middling 4.28 ERA in 2026 and posted a low 9.6% strikeout-to-walk rate.
While Eduardo Rodriguez, Brandon Pfaadt, and Corbin Burnes remain under contract, Michael Soroka is anticipated to decline his $10MM mutual option to test free agency, and Zac Gallen is unlikely to return. Arizona could explore trade packages featuring outfielders Jordan Lawlar or Ryan Waldschmidt to acquire starters such as Bryce Miller, Bryan Woo, Reid Detmers, or Will Warren.
